The Konica Minolta Group Activities

Marketing and Sales Network of Business Solutions

Konica Minolta was among the first Japanese manufacturers to establish marketing subsidiaries overseas. Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe in Langenhagen, Germany and Konica Minolta Photo Imaging in Munich, Germany, are the headquarters of the European, Middle East and African sales areas for office equipment, cameras and photo imaging products. Konica Minolta Printing Solutions Europe in Nieuwegein, The Netherlands, markets mainly laser printer.

The Konica Minolta Group in Europe has operations in 23 countries throughout Europe. These companies directly market Konica Minolta products, primarily image information and optical products but also industrial instruments, and offer rapid-response services in line with customer needs. Konica Minolta's marketing network has subsequently grown to include 33 subsidiaries around the world. 80% of sales are generated outside Japan.

Konica Minolta has expanded its presence in China, where the demand for cameras and business equipment is rising quickly, and was the first Japanese manufacturer of cameras and business equipment to establish local joint ventures with marketing operations in Shanghai and Wuhan. Konica Minolta even markets planetariums and was the first Japanese company to do so.

Research and Development

Konica Minolta has developed numerous revolutionary technologies for image information products, optical products and industrial instruments and markets some of these technologies to other manufacturers. Along with five other companies Konica Minolta was significantly involved in the development of the APS technology. Konica Minolta also developed the first Holographic See-Through Browser.

To continually develop and market distinctively innovative products that meet user needs, Konica Minolta draws on a huge stock of accumulated know-how and focuses great efforts on the creation of epochal new technologies. Constantly working to develop products in line with the needs of both customers and society, Konica Minolta has been a leader in designing environment-friendly recyclable products.

Manufacturing

Developing truly innovative products requires both strong R&D capabilities and sophisticated manufacturing systems. Konica Minolta has made steady progress in automating production processes and developing increasingly sophisticated manufacturing technologies. Konica Minolta's corporate strategy has emphasised the creation of integrated and comprehensive computer systems, covering all processes from the initial design through to the final assembly stages. In addition, Konica Minolta's production technology engineers have devoted considerable efforts to the development of new materials and processing technologies.

Konica Minolta manufactures the Polymerized Toner, which offers users the benefits of better output quality and lower toner consumption thanks to these extremely small coloured particles of uniform diameter and shape. Aiming to reduce trade friction and increase the share of manufacturing operations carried out in overseas markets, Konica Minolta Japan has established manufacturing subsidiaries in the United States, France, Malaysia and China. All members of the Konica Minolta Group maintain strict quality assurance systems, proof of which has come from the awards of ISO 9000 Series and ISO 14001 certification. As part of its company-wide environmental protection programs, Konica Minolta is continually working to upgrade its manufacturing systems' performance with regard to such goals as the reduction and appropriate processing of waste products as well as the conservation of energy and resources.
